However, I hope I am wrong and he reports on the 14th to Mesa with the rest of the Cubs pitchers and catchers.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I believe Towers said something like if Peavy's not traded by opening day, he wouldn't be going anywhere. He thinks all the talk will distract a player and limit their performance, so he doesn't want to do that to Peavy. I could be wrong, but I believe he said something like this a month or two ago.

I would do that yesterday.

Hendry probably would too but probably needs to wait for this ownership stuff to settle for a week or two. So yeah that deal is 2 guys we got(shocking!), our top prospect, a pitcher we don't have room for, and a catcher that will never start with us.

On second thought that sounds like too much to give up.

I read somewhere else (can't find it) that the Padres want Marshall AND Olson AND Vitters and then the Stevens/Castillo/Hart types.

I don't think Hendry would even consider that.

Done. The only players that mean anything to me there are Marshall and Vitters(who I have my doubts on and he plays a corner position on a big market team, we shouldn't have much trouble filling that hole. plus alf's in left for the next century). I doubt they'll have to give up both Marshall and Olson though.

You can't give up all 3 of those plus 2-3 more prospects to get Peavy when the Padres don't really have any other team as an option as a trade partner.

Like I said, I don't think it will take that much. Say other teams are interested then. Would I give up those players to get Jake Peavy? Absolutely.

I agree, but it works out for us that the Padres aren't dealing from a position of power.
