The 2 "extra" players are Tracy and Millar, who aren't on the 40 man roster because they signed minor league deals. Nady and Gray go to the DL, and Tracy and Millar will get promoted to the 40 man roster and make the team. At least, that's how I think the roster will wind up.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Wow Colorado..so you have Berg as bein optioned then, I am suprised. I didnt think many fans would agree to option him and see how Rule 5, Mike Parisi does...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Lou said Berg and Caridad are his two preferred options to be the right-handed set-up pitcher, so Berg is apparently a heavy favorite to make the bullpen.

Is Berg out of options? I guess he and Caridad are interchangeable depending on whoever has options left. I don't think it's really that big of a deal since I'm sure we'll be adding a veteran reliever at some point. I just pointed out what I thought was likely to happen, not what I wanted to happen.

I think Caridad and Berg both have options. But according to some reports, the final bullpen spot is down to Parisi, Gaub, Mateo and Russell

Lou Piniella said there are four pitchers competing for one spot and that group includes John Gaub, James Russell, Marcus Mateo and Mike Parisi. When asked about Berg, Piniella said: "Berg is in. Berg has done a nice job."

That means the 'pen now consists of closer Carlos Marmol, John Grabow, Esmailin Caridad, Berg, and two of the four pitchers who don't make the rotation. That list includes Carlos Silva, Jeff Samardzija, Tom Gorzelanny and Sean Marshall.

Good info dude, idk where you found that out, but good shit. Yeah, I figured Berg had to be in with his numbers thus far, and I figured counting him in, there would be 1 spot left, which there is. Of those 4 that are competing for 1 spot (Parisi, Russel, Gaub & Mateo)...I would have to think it's Parisi's job to lose as of now. Mateo's numbers are awful. Gaub set himself back considerably after his last appearance before today, and still had another 2 or 3 BB's today too. And I dont know much about Russel, but being that I havent heard of him, I dont think he is the favorite. Like I said, Parisi's job to lose. Agree with that?
