Makes ya wonder what changed with Archer that he went from a throw-in in the DeRosa deal to looking like one of the better prospects in the Cubs organization.
Prior to coming to the Cubs he had a 5-18 record with an ERA at somewhere around 5 while walking almost as many as he K'd. His K rate was decent, but he walked a ton of batters.
He had been getting incrementally better, but since he's been with the Cubs, he's 17-6 with an era at roughly 2.35. He still struggles with his control, but it's much better and his K/9 is over 9 while batters are hitting about .200 against him.
So something has changed. I'd love to say it was the Cubs coaching. Or at least I hope so.
