I think he just throws a ton of pitches (unfortunately). High K, high BB guy.

He pitched 3 innings, walking 1, striking out 2. What's that pitch count generally going to be? 50 or 60 max? I think they just want to make sure he gets a couple innings in a row, so they have him start.

Those were low for him, IIRC. I imagine he's on a 60 to 70 pitch count at the most, but you're right, he couldn't have thrown more than 50 last night.
They often do "start" relievers so that they can get them work against the best hitters in consecutive innings, but the Cubs have said they're trying to stretch Cashner out to start. It sure doesn't look like it, though.
