The original is still mostly a cult hit, so not surprised. Plus its a Thursday.

Yeah, but big openings are usually packed.  Maybe its just the people i know that are hyped about it.  I loved it.  Few scenes could have been cut, but overall shit it was everything I expected.

I ended up seeing it last night and I thought it was fantastic. I'm already looking forward to a second viewing...

Yep!  Definitely met my expectations.  I thought Gosling was really good in it, only part of the storyline I was meh on was the quick "rebellion" stuff.  But it was very minor.

Butch, sometimes I think you're my film soulmate.

VERY MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD

We're typically on the same wavelength, movie-wise. Rok too. Maybe the three of us should be a polyamorous movie trio...

Yeah the rebellion thing seemed pretty unnecessary and was even sort of passed over rather quickly.  But, yeah, minor quibble.

I thought the evil replicant -- Love -- was a horrifying vision in yoga pants. She was a great villain. And I agree on Gosling; he's a legit movie star.

One of my favorite scenes was when his hologram girlfriend synced up with the woman...that was trippy and pretty visually stunning. Also some emotional heft there. Lots of existential questions raised throughout -- just what I expected and was hoping for.

Also, Joi is just fucking hot.  Apparently a Cuban actress named Ana De Armas?  I'm officially in love.

Side note that this thread made me consider, maybe the three of us should do an occasional SOI movie theater night? Dude night. Don't think a thread was started but I went and saw Aronofsky's new movie and was pretty lukewarm on at least the second half. Either of you see that yet?

Yes. Quite hot. The first movie I saw her in was Knock Knock (don't bother -- it's a piece of shit)...but I definitely took note of her. :)

I'd be game for catching a movie with you guys, for sure.

I saw mother! and thought there was some interesting stuff, but I didn't always enjoy the experience of viewing it. I like that Aronofsky takes risks and does unconventional stuff with his films, so I appreciated that. I'd say overall it was a net-positive..but just barely.

I think that about sums up my thoughts as well.  Truth told, I thought it was a bit boring.

Another aside, this Weinstein stuff is pretty terrible.

I watched this yesterday instead of watching the game and it seems it's a good thing I did.

I liked it, but I wasn't awed by it and the first one is much better. It's probably about 20 minutes too long too. Still one of the better movies of the year with great performances by Gosling and the chick who plays Joi is smoking.

I give it a 3 1/2 outta 5
